This is probably the best place to start if you are confused as to what is going on with this blog. It’s fairly simple you see. This is a place to pay tribute to the nearly 40 year old building that is in its final season of holding NHL games and other events. While I think we’ve all become somewhat weary of the building we all have a special fondness for it as well. I personally have grown to hate having to enter this building. The bathrooms are entirely too small (and the trough urinals are weird.). The traffic jams of people can only be rivaled by the traffic jams getting to the games.
Though I do love the rancid smell of the place. There’s something that brings a smile to my face when I smell stale popcorn, urine, and beer. There is still a lot to love about the place. It is the first and so far only home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was the main character of the movie Sudden Death (NOT Jean Claude!), and they flew a helicopter in tail first. How awesome of a scene was that?
Anyway, this site is dedicated to the fun and the memories from the Igloo. Believe it or not the Penguins aren’t the only form of entertainment to enter the building. Wrestling, concerts, conventions, and movies have all graced the city and the Mellon Arena. Even hosting a Pay Per View event just less then 2 weeks after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Hopefully the Penguins can bring one more great memory to the Mellon Arena and have Sidney Crosby be the first Penguin to hoist the Stanley Cup inside the Mellon Arena.
